Using Engage Messages

Engage messages are proactive conversation starters that appear above your chat widget to encourage visitors to interact with your AI agent. These messages help increase engagement and provide immediate assistance to your website visitors.

What Are Engage Messages?

Engage messages appear as small notification-style bubbles above your chat widget approximately 3 seconds after a visitor loads your page. They're designed to grab attention and invite conversation without being intrusive.
Key features:
  • Messages appear automatically after a short delay
  • Disappear once a visitor opens the chat widget
  • Can be customized for specific pages or site-wide
  • Include a subtle close button for visitors who prefer not to engage

Types of Engage Messages

Default Messages

Default messages appear on all pages of your website where your chat widget is active. You can create up to 3 default messages, which will be shown in order of priority.

URL-Based Messages

URL-based messages are displayed only on specific pages that match your defined URL patterns. These allow you to create contextual prompts based on the content visitors are viewing. You can create up to 3 messages per URL pattern using the following matching methods:
  • Contains: Message appears on any page containing the specified text in the URL
  • Exact: Message appears only on pages with the exact URL path specified
  • Starts with: Message appears on pages where the URL begins with the specified text
  • Regex: Message appears on pages matching a regular expression pattern

Managing Engage Messages

You can manage your engage messages from the Chat Widget settings in your dashboard:
  1. Navigate to Agent > Chat Widget
  1. Scroll down to the Engage Messages section
  1. Toggle the "Enable engage messages" switch to activate/deactivate all engage messages
  1. Add new messages or edit existing ones
  1. Use the play/pause buttons to activate or deactivate individual messages

Best Practices

  • Keep messages concise and friendly
  • Use questions or offers of help to encourage interaction
  • Create specific messages for high-value pages (pricing, product pages, etc.)
  • Use emojis to add personality and draw attention
  • Test different messages to see which ones generate the most engagement
By effectively using engage messages, you can proactively assist your website visitors and increase the usage of your AI agent.
